Déu clement i misericordiós, en aquest moment sagrat venim davant vós necessitats, fins i tot de genolls. Però més encara, venim amb esperança i amb els nostres ulls oberts de nou a la visió d’una “més perfecta unió” en la nostra terra, una unió de tots els nostres conciutadans per a “promoure el benestar general i assegurar les benediccions de la llibertat per a nosaltres i la posteritat”.

Archbishop Carroll prayed that you, O Creator of all, would “assist with your Holy Spirit of counsel and fortitude the President of these United States, that his administration may be conducted in righteousness, and be eminently useful to your people.”
L’arquebisbe Carroll va pregar perquè vós, oh Creador de tots, volguéssiu “assistir amb el vostre Sant Esperit de consell i fortalesa el President dels Estats Units, per tal que el seu govern pogués estar sempre motivat per la honestedat, i ésser especialment útil per al vostre poble”.
Today, we confess our past failures to live according to our vision of equality, inclusion and freedom for all. Yet we resolutely commit still more now to renewing the vision, to caring for one another in word and deed, especially the least fortunate among us, and so becoming a light the world can look to.
Avui, reconeixem les nostres errades passades de no viure prou d’acord amb una visió d’igualtat, inclusió i llibertat per a tots. Malgrat això, ara ens comprometem encara més decididament a renovar aquesta visió, a preocupar-nos més els uns pels altres de paraula i obra, especialment pels menys afortunats entre nosaltres, i d’aquesta manera esdevenir un punt de referència lluminós per al món.

Hi ha una potencialitat en cadascun de nosaltres que es manifesta quan ens adrecem vers qualsevol altre que és com nosaltres, un impuls de l’esperit per a estimar, cuidar i preocupar-nos dels altres, i sobretot d’aquells que en tenen més necessitat. Se’n diu amor i el seu camí és donar-se un mateix més i més.
Today, it is called American patriotism, born not of power and privilege but of care for the common good—“with malice toward none and with charity for all.”

For our new president, we beg of you the wisdom Solomon sought when he knelt before you and prayed for “an understanding heart so that I can govern your people and know the difference between right and wrong.”
Per al nostre nou President, us demanem la saviesa que Salomó va cercar quan es va agenollar davant vostre i us va demanar “un cor comprensiu per poder governar el vostre poble i conèixer la diferència entre el bé i el mal”.
Holy Mystery of Love, help us under our new President to reconcile the people of our land, restore our dream, and invest it with peace and justice and the joy that is the overflow of love.
Sant Misteri d’Amor, ajudeu-nos sota el nostre nou President a reconciliar la gent de la nostra terra, restaureu el nostre somni i revestiu-lo de pau i justícia i de la joia que neix de l’amor.
We trust in the counsel of the Letter of James: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
Confiem en el consell de la Carta de sant Jaume: “Si a algú de vosaltres li manca saviesa, que la demani a Déu, que dona generosament a tothom sense excepció, i us serà donada”.
Pope Francis has reminded us “how important it is to dream together…. By ourselves, we risk seeing mirages, things that are not there. Dreams, on the other hand, are built Together.”
El papa Francesc ens ha recordat “l’important que és somiar junts… Si anem sols, ens arrisquem a veure miratges, coses que no hi són. Els Somnis, en canvi, es construeixen Junts”.
Be with us, Holy Mystery of Love, as we dream together. Help us under our new President to reconcile the people of our land, restore our dream, and invest it with peace and justice and the joy that is the overflow of love.
